PERMITTING
  • AKA strives to build relationships with local municipalities and authorities so that you can be sure that your permitting process will go as smoothly as possible.  We are licensed in the following states but have done work throughout the country through partnered firms:
  • Arizona, Colorado, Georgia (Registered Interior Designer), Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Texas LC# 20244, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
  • Andrew Foster, AIA is a self-certified architect in the City of Chicago.  Self-Certification is a process by which an Architect "self certifies" the project.  This special registration from the City of Chicago Department of Buildings was obtained after completing an extensive study course. Under the self-certification process, we can obtain permits within significantly less time than the standard review process would take.  Permits can be obtained this way for many different types of projects.  Please feel free to reach out to us if you have an interest in this type of permitting.
  • AKA also works closely with local Health Departments and Healthcare Accrediting Authorities, in particular IDPH, ISDH, JCAHO, and CDPH among others to ensure everything moves smoothly during your project.

  • Atul Karkhanis, AIA, LEED AP, is a LEED Accredited Professional, which means that our firm has the knowledge base necessary to coordinate, develop, and design buildings to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification.  LEED certification is a nationally recognized rating system indicating that a building and it's owners are "green-friendly" and care about our environment.  LEED certifies a variety of building types and has different levels of rating - Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.  LEED certification can also bring tax savings depending on the nature of your project and scope.
